Experimenting with drawing processes and the monster of the subconscious, I tried a number of experiments with graphite, ink, and charcoal. The charcoal experiments were my favorite, including grinding vine charcoal into a little bit of water and then scraping it on the paper with a bench scraper and holding the paper above a tray of water, soap, crushed charcoal and then blowing into the mixture with a straw, creating bubbles and splatter marks on the paper.

After the background was placed with these experimental processes, I attempted to interpret shapes that could be found in the abstract background. I decided to draw in a seated nude woman in the foreground using graphite and oil pastels. I did not fill in her limbs, face, or side completely because I wanted to use transparency as a way of implying transience.
